The Arrow Season 6 Blu-ray explores the season’s villains and puts their actions into context.

Arrow Season 6 was one harrowing journey. Now that the Blu-ray has been released, we can relive the adventure and catch minute details that were missed upon the first viewing.

As always, the real beauty of Blu-ray releases aren’t directly related to the series itself—it’s with the coveted extras. Arrow‘s Season 6 Blu-ray offering doesn’t break that trend one bit. The special features are chock full of interviews that explore the motivations of various characters and how they affect Oliver Queen’s mission.

The Split of a Man: Deathstroke

Deathstroke is probably the most interesting villain on not only Arrow, but the overall Arrowverse. This segment explores Slade Wilson’s character arc from his friendship with Oliver on Lian Yu, to his becoming our hero’s archenemy, to his redemption. Deathstroke’s motivations are explored and we’re shown the human side of one of DC’s greatest assassins.

Inside the Crossover: Crisis on Earth-X

Executive producers from Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow sit down and have a chat about the massive yearly undertaking of creating a four-episode crossover spanning the Arrowverse. The discussions cover the planning and storyboarding of specific actions scenes, and the daunting task of continuing each episode’s momentum while dealing with character arcs.

“Crisis on Earth X” was also the farewell episode for the beloved Dr. Stein (Victor Garber). Because of this, the team of producers had to find a fitting exit for this fan-favorite hero.

After watching this segment, viewers will take on a new appreciation for milestone episodes that deal with shared universe characters. The coordination itself is a feat that requires superhuman efforts.

The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2017

This segment highlights Comic-Con 2017’s panels for Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Gotham. The cast and crew of each show talk about the just-ended 2016-2017 season and what’s in store in terms of plot and character for 2018. It’s always fun to see the actors behind your favorite characters off the set and being candid.

Revenge in Ones and Zeros: The Story of Cayden James

Cayden James (Michael Emerson), a mastermind hacker, throws a curve ball at Team Arrow in Season 6. Although he’s a mysterious figure at first, the villain’s motivations are soon revealed. This segment explores James’s downfall from heroic, vigilante hacker to one of the deadliest enemies Oliver Queen has ever had. The segment also shows how nefarious and stealthy the villains on this show can be, as James is shown to not be the season’s ultimate big-bad.

More Blu-ray: The Death Of Superman Blu-ray Review

The Arrow Season 6 Blu-ray is an excellent collection of interviews that explore the characters tied to this specific season. Above all, it shows how Arrow is a long-term game, weaving plot points and stories from past seasons into its current narrative.

Arrow Season 6 was released to Blu-ray and DVD on August 14, 2018.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.

About Steve Lam 105 Articles
The first superhero Steve ever saw was Christopher Reeve's Superman in 1978. Steve was only a year old and couldn't really appreciate history being made. Little did he know at the time, the seed was already planted—which would grow into a lifelong obsession with superheroes and comics. Today, Steve also adds science fiction, horror, and movies to his repertoire of nerdy fanaticism. His dream is to one day sell his novel or screenplay.
