According to Geoff Johns, his plans for the Green Lantern Corps movie will be “a complete re-imagining” of the idea that will celebrate the Corps.
If you are a fan of superhero movies, then odds are you are still trying to get the mess that was 2011’s Green Lantern out of your memory. What was originally envisioned as a launching pad for a shared DC Universe instead has become the poster child for what not to do in a superhero film.
And for those of you who haven’t seen it, just take our word for it. Yes, it really is that bad.
However, you can’t have a Worlds of DC cinematic universe without the Green Lantern Corps, so Warner Bros. is willing to give the idea another go.
To do so, they decided to bring in their big guns, namely Geoff Johns. It was announced last month that Johns would step away from the boardroom and instead return to the creative side of things. The first order of business would be writing and producing a Green Lantern Corps movie, which had been put on the back burner after the Justice League fiasco.
As most are aware, Johns has had a long relationship with the Corps, having written the title for nine years, beginning with the bestselling Green Lantern: Rebirth. That story reshaped the Corps and Hal Jordan and is still the inspiration for almost everything that has come since.
And it looks like for the movie version, Johns plans to reinvent the Green Lantern Corps once again.
While speaking to IGN at San Diego Comic-Con International, Johns spoke about the script and what his plans are for the movie. According to Johns, he plans to pretty much start from scratch while keeping the spirit of the comics alive.
“I’m going to be hopefully delivering a script that Warner loves and DC likes and they want to make it. (It’s) going to celebrate the mythology and reinvent it in a different way.
“It’s a complete re-imagining, just like I did Green Lantern: Rebirth in the comics.”

In the past it has been rumored that Green Lantern Corps will center on Hal Jordan and John Stewart and function as a kind of buddy cop film. Considering Johns has years of experience writing both characters, hopes are high that the mistakes of the past won’t be repeated.
Seriously. No one wants to see a second Green Lantern.
Green Lantern Corps is slated for a 2020 release, but that could change depending on how Aquaman and Shazam! perform at the box office. It is doubtful Warner Bros. will want to spend the money on a effects-heavy film like this if the prospects for the rebranded Worlds of DC are still not so great.
