Voldo Confirmed For Soulcalibur VI With Reveal Trailer

Soulcalibur VI
Bandai Namco

One of the most bizarre characters in all of Soulcalibur lore is back for the sixth installment of the franchise as shown in a brand new trailer.

When it comes to fighting games, there are very few characters like Soulcalibur‘s Voldo.

A series mainstay and only one of five characters to have appeared in every edition of the franchise going back to the 1995 arcade game Soul Edge, Voldo is very unique. His fighting style is not exactly what you would call conventional and visually, well there aren’t too many like him.

Some Soulcalibur fans had been wondering where Voldo was since he has been absent since the announcement of the game last year. Many figured there was no way Bandai Namco was going to release a Soulcalibur game without him, but the wait was starting to get people worried.

Worry no more. On Friday Bandai Namco announced that yes, Voldo is indeed in the game. In addition, they released a character reveal trailer and you can see for yourself that this is the Voldo gamers know and love.

Voldo can be seen wearing his favorite torture gear with some new additions including spikes over his eyes. And yes, Voldo’s crotch and thrusting-based attacks are also back.

For those that are curious, Voldo is both blind and mute due to years spent guarding the riches of an arms dealer named Vercci. After so much time spent in the dark of the Money Pit, Voldo lost his sight and the ability to speak, but gained heightened hearing and an ability similar to Daredevil’s radar sense.

Which doesn’t really explain why Voldo is dressed like a fetish dominatrix, but I guess if we ask too many questions the whole thing comes apart.

While many gamers will shy away from playing Voldo due to his one-of-a-kind fighting style, true Soulcalibur fans know that once you get the hang of how he fights, Voldo can be pretty unstoppable. His combo attacks in particular can be fairly deadly as they are very hard to predict or defend.

With the addition of Voldo, there are now 15 confirmed characters for Soulcalibur VI, which includes a mix of both new and returning fighters.

Soulcalibur VI arrives for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on Oct. 19.
