Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, the first official trailer for the highly anticipated Aquaman has finally been released and does not disappoint.
“When are we going to see the first trailer for Aquaman?”
Whenever more than five comic book fans got together it seemed that this was the question on everyone’s minds. With the film due to arrive in December, it seemed like the wait for the first trailer was never going to end.
The wait is finally over.
On Saturday at the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con International the first trailer for Aquaman was finally released to an ecstatic crowd.
Aquaman picks up after Justice League and follows Arthur Curry as he tries to reconcile the two worlds that make up who he is: the surface dwellers and the people of Atlantis. The bulk of the movie follows Aquaman and Mera as they search for Atlan’s Trident so that Arthur can stop his brother from becoming King and going to war with the surface world.
Aquaman also is the first film in the newly renamed Worlds of DC shared universe to hit theaters after the debacle that was Justice League. It the time since that movie bombed at the box office, the entire DC film division has seen a major shake-up with Walter Hamada replacing Jon Berg as the head of all things DC at the movies.
So to say there is a lot riding on Aquaman would be a tremendous understatement. Not only will it be a barometer to see if moviegoers are still willing to pay money to see the DC brand, but will likely set the tone for the success or failure of the upcoming Shazam! and Wonder Woman sequel.
Of course, all you need to do is watch the trailer and it is pretty clear that Warner Bros. has a hit on their hands. Visually the movie looks like no other superhero film before, with the underwater sequences looking simply amazing. Jason Momoa was born to play this role and was one of the only real enjoyable aspects of Justice League.
Add in James Wan as your director with a story by Wan, Will Beall, and non-other than Geoff Johns and it would be hard to screw this up.
Of course, that’s what many people said about Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

But the bottom line after watching the trailer is that somehow, someway, they managed to make Aquaman really freakin’ cool.
So will Aquaman usher in a new era for the DC Cinematic Universe, or will it be the final nail in the coffin? Fans will get to find out when the film arrives in theaters everywhere on Dec. 21, 2018.
