SDCC 2018: Cloak And Dagger Renewed For Second Season

Announced at San Diego Comic-Con International, Freeform has renewed Cloak and Dagger for a second season and teased a classic villain.

Why is it Marvel can make great television on any network except ABC?

While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had its ups and downs (mostly downs) over the course of its run, various other Marvel properties have thrived on other networks.

Both Legion and The Gifted were very well received in their respective first seasons on Fox and FX. Meanwhile, all the various Netflix shows (with the possible exception of The Defenders) have also done incredibly well with fans and critics over their various seasons.

Meanwhile, in addition to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC gave us The Inhumans.

The less said about that pile of steaming crap the better.

The latest non-ABC hit for Marvel’s television division is Cloak and Dagger, which airs on the Freeform network.

The series, which stars Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph as the title characters, feature a pair of young teenagers from different worlds who begin to develop super powers. As the pair try to deal with their new situation, they begin to have feelings for each other in a very Romeo and Juliet kind of way.

It’s quite a departure from the source material, which regularly delved into some pretty dark territory over the course of its run. That said, the series has found an audience, so much so that Cloak and Dagger will be back for a second season.

Announced at the Cloak and Dagger panel at San Diego Comic-Con International, the second season will again be 10 episodes and the short teaser promises there “will be mayhem.”

Cloak and Dagger fans may remember that Mayhem was the alter ego of Detective Brigid O’Reilly once she became a super-villain after her death and rebirth at the hands of the pair of teenage heroes. She is played by Emma Lahana in the Freeform series.

Additionally, Freeform also gave panel attendees a sneak peek at the final two episodes of Season 1.
