Comic-Con 2018 Badge Unboxing

Fantinuum performs an unboxing of Comic-Con 2018’s commemorative badge box.

We know Comic-Con is near when we get the notification that our badges have been mailed out. This year, it seems the notifications were a bit late because the day they were sent out, we got our boxes—unless the US Postal Service has really upped its game.

We got our notification earlier today and, lo and behold, we found our yellow padded envelope waiting for us in our mailboxes a few hours later. The familiar outline of the box got us excited knowing that our official key to the festival of the year was now in our hands. So let’s get on to our unboxing of Comic-Con 2018’s commemorative box!

Like last year, the box is glossy and has a magnetic clasp. It has a very nice design, emphasizing the convention’s Toucan mascot sporting an astronaut suit. Opening it up, we’re greeted with an advertisement for Amazon Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series. We also get a quick glimpse of the actual contents—which we’ll dig into soon.

The Comic-Con 2018 badge again sports a Walking Dead theme. Of course, ours is a Press Badge so the color scheme is green. We’ll definitely be picking up a lanyard on Preview Night.

Comic-Con 2018 Toucan Astronaut Pin

This year, Comic-Con had two different enamel pins. One was the standard Comic-Con 2018 logo pin—and the other was a special Toucan Astronaut pin. I have a fondness for anything having to do with space exploration, so I kept my fingers crossed that I would get this pin. And the convention gods bestowed upon me my wish. It’s a very well-designed pin. Colorful and detailed, the background also has a sparkly blue. It’s also quite large—coming in at a size of 2 inches by 2 inches. This year’s alternate pin is definitely a win!

And, of course, the obligatory Welcome Pamphlet. The information is probably the same as last year’s, but I’ll be reading it from cover-to-cover no matter what.

Ever since last year, Comic-Con has been coming up with new ways of impressing its attendees. However, I would love to see another theme for the badges other than The Walking Dead—maybe something along the lines of DC or Marvel? Hey, I’m definitely not complaining. I’m ecstatic to just receive the Toucan Astronaut pin!

About Steve Lam 105 Articles
The first superhero Steve ever saw was Christopher Reeve's Superman in 1978. Steve was only a year old and couldn't really appreciate history being made. Little did he know at the time, the seed was already planted—which would grow into a lifelong obsession with superheroes and comics. Today, Steve also adds science fiction, horror, and movies to his repertoire of nerdy fanaticism. His dream is to one day sell his novel or screenplay.
