It looks like the adventures of the best pilot in the Resistance will be coming to an end with Star Wars: Poe Dameron #31 in September.
With Marvel Comics, if any series makes it past issue #12 without getting cancelled, rebooted or relaunched, you call it a victory and move one.
Which makes the publisher’s Star Wars titles a bit of an oddity in the current comic book climate.
The main title, Star Wars, is getting ready to celebrate a landmark 50th issue, something no Marvel title has been able to do for quite some time. The second Darth Vader ongoing is up to issue #17 and is still going strong. And Poe Dameron, the only book to take place during the timeline of The Force Awakens had been looking like it was heading towards a 50th issue of its own.
It turns out that unfortunately, that won’t be the case.
In the Marvel solicitations for September that came out this week, it was revealed that Star Wars: Poe Dameron will be ending with issue #31. Which is incredibly unfortunate but does make a certain amount of sense.
The Poe Dameron title was originally meant to tell the story of how Dameron and the members of Black Squadron found Lor San Tekka, which led into the opening moments of The Force Awakens. Having finished that story, the book was now telling flashbacks while taking place in the minutes after the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Considering the stranglehold Disney has over when and how characters can be used, especially the ones featured in the new trilogy, it’s amazing writer Charles Soule had been given the amount of freedom he has had since issue #1.
Hopefully, despite Poe Dameron coming to an end, this won’t be the last time we see this time period of the Star Wars saga in comics. There are still plenty of stories that could be told and lots of trouble for Black Squadron to get into.

SERIES FINALE!
In this final chapter of the POE DAMERON series, we see what may be BLACK SQUADRON’S last mission, as they desperately attempt to find allies for GENERAL LEIA ORGANA’S decimated RESISTANCE.
It’s been one heck of a ride, but all stories must come to an end.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron #31 goes on sale this September. Hopefully an omnibus collecting the entire run will follow sooner rather than later.
