The first trailer for Creed II, the sequel to the 2015 blockbuster continuation of the Rocky saga, has arrived and it is everything we wanted it to be.

If you are as big a fan of the Rocky series of films as we are, then you probably went into 2015’s Creed with more than your fair share of doubts.

Despite the series going out on a high note with Rocky Balboa in 2006, many were content to let the series rest until someone came along to film a remake. Which of course was going to happen because this is Hollywood, where franchises never die.

Instead, a then relatively unknown filmmaker named Ryan Coogler came along and decided to continue the story, but instead of focusing on Rocky, it would tell the story of Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed who died in Rocky IV.

To the surprise of many longtime fans, 2015’s Creed was not only a great film but it turned on a whole new generation to the Rocky Saga and earned Sylvester Stallone an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The film went on to make $109 million in the U.S alone and $173 million worldwide on a budget of just $35 million. You don’t need to be good at math to know with those kinds of numbers, a sequel was all but a certainty.

On Wednesday the first trailer for that sequel arrived online. And fans can already tell that Creed II is pretty much everything they could hope for.

The sequel sees the return of both Stallone and Michael B. Jordan but with Steven Caple Jr. now in the director’s chair. Coogler, now much in demand thanks to the success of Black Panther, would help with the script and executive produce this time around.

It’s been known for quite some time that Creed II would see Adonis go up against the son of Ivan Drago, the man who killed his father. And if the trailer is any indication, the son takes after his father when it comes to being in the ring.

MGM also released a brief synopsis for the film:

Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am so there. The first Creed was an amazing movie and the sequel looks like it is going to be just as good, if not better.

Creed II arrives in theaters everywhere on November 21, 2018.
