To celebrate Marvel’s Spider-Man going from video game to comics in Spidergeddon #0, he will be starring on a set of variant covers this September.
At the E3 Expo last week, all eyes were on Insomniac Games and their latest sure to be video game hit, Marvel’s Spider-Man. The game was a huge part of Sony’s PlayStation 4 presentation and every indication is that this will be the best Spider-Man video game in quite some time.
When it was revealed that the Spidey starring in the game was a brand new version of the character, fans began to ask almost immediately when we would see him in the comic book version of the Marvel Universe. It only made sense and many agreed it wasn’t a matter of if but when this new Spider-Man would fight alongside the Peter Parker we all know and love.
This week is was revealed by Polygon that the latest Spider-Man would make his Marvel Universe debut in the pages of Spidergeddon #0, a kinda-sorta sequel to 2014’s Spider-Verse. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as Spider-Man goes on sale for the PS4 on Sept. 7 and Spidergeddon #0 arrives in comic shops on Sept. 26.
Deciding that just isn’t enough of the newest Spider-Man for their fans, Marvel has announced that this Spidey will also be featured on five variant covers in September as well.
The five variants will all pay homage to classic Spider-Man covers of yesteryear and will be drawn by a who’s who of Insomniac Games artists.
The list includes:
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 by Dennis Chan
Amazing Spider-Man #5 by Daryl Mandryk
Avengers #7 by Eve Ventrue
Spidergeddon #0 by Sing Ji
West Coast Avengers #2 by Tim Tsang
While variant covers have fallen out of favor for most collectors, on rare occasions a publisher will actually make good use of the idea for something special. Plus with his distinctive version of the classic Spider-Man costume, this version of the Web-head looks too great not to showcase in a number of different ways.
