Avengers: Infinity War has now hit the $2 billion worldwide box office milestone!

Well, $2,002,059,331 to be exact. It was pretty much inevitable that Avengers: Infinity War would hit this mark. The only thing in question was “when?”. And that inquiry was answered today as the epic ensemble blockbuster joined an elite group of films that have box-office takes able to sustain small cities. Titanic, Avatar, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens are the other members in this club.

Avengers: Infinity War, currently, has a domestic take of $656.1 million. It also has the honor of having the biggest film debut of all time with $257.7 million in its opening weekend. Internationally, without it’s domestic earnings, the film has a take of $1.346 billion—proving that superheroes and comics transcend cultural divides.

The film is a ten-year culmination of Marvel Studios’ wide-spanning Marvel Cinematic Universe—a series of films (and television shows) playing in a giant sandbox of one shared universe. The next installment in the MCU will be Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will be released in the United States on July 6, 2018.

Fantinuum is calling it now: Avengers 4 will beat this record and get to a number higher than this at an even faster rate. With the ending of Infinity War leaving audiences in emotional turmoil, the next film will be a race to fill theater seats. Why? Because everyone wants to see which of their favorite characters will return. Marvel Studios is an unstoppable behemoth and it shows no signs of slowing down.

Avengers: Infinity War was released in the United States on April 27, 2018.

About Steve Lam 105 Articles
The first superhero Steve ever saw was Christopher Reeve's Superman in 1978. Steve was only a year old and couldn't really appreciate history being made. Little did he know at the time, the seed was already planted—which would grow into a lifelong obsession with superheroes and comics. Today, Steve also adds science fiction, horror, and movies to his repertoire of nerdy fanaticism. His dream is to one day sell his novel or screenplay.
