A new logo tease from Geoff Johns gives fans an idea of Wonder Woman 2’s setting.

With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Suicide Squad (2016), and Justice League (2017) lambasted by critics and audiences, Wonder Woman (2017) has been a blessing for the DC Extended Universe. So its not a surprise that everyone is at the edge of their seats when it comes to news pertaining to the next chapter in the Goddess of Truth’s exploits.

Via Facebook, DC Entertainment chief Geoff Johns recently gave a logo tease to fans on when Wonder Woman’s sequel will be set. We’ve long speculated that Diana will be reemerging in the 1980s. And the logo Johns posted aligns closely to that theory.

In large bold font, the “WW84” logo seems to be telling audiences that Wonder Woman will be set specifically in the year 1984—the heart of the Cold War. Other than this simple, yet effective, hint, Johns and director Patty Jenkins (who also directed the first film) have been pretty mum about everything. That doesn’t mean rumors and predictions won’t go wild. And here at Fantinuum, we definitely have our own:

  • Could Wonder Woman be tasked with disarming nukes in both the United States and what was then the Soviet Union?
  • Why 1984? Other than that being close to the midpoint of the 1980s, what’s so significant about that year?
  • If the sequel is set in 1984, how did she stay under the radar all these years? Remember, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Amazon princess was a mystery to both Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor, with the only information available being a picture of her from World War I.
  • Could the sequel be titled “Wonder Woman ’84”?

Jenkins has, in past interviews, stated her interest in bringing Diana’s story to the United States. So we could also be seeing some pretty nostalgic things from our ’80s childhoods. Well, maybe at least from yours truly because I’m an old man. With ’80s culture seeing a huge resurgence due to Stranger Things, the Black Mirror episode “San Junipero,” Snowfall, and GLOW, the next chapter of this DC hero will definitely be in good company.

Wonder Woman’s sequel will see the return of Gal Gadot as the iconic DC heroine with Pedro Pascal in an undisclosed role. Earlier this year, Kristen Wiig was announced as the sequel’s main villain—Cheetah. The film is set to be released on November 1, 2019.
