Sideshow Collectibles gives fans a preview of their latest line of premium format figures dedicated to the DC Trinity.
For most fans who have read my blogs throughout the years, they know that I’m a die-hard Superman fan. If there’s Superman anything, you’ll find me picking it up. As an example, my local comic book store had a variant cover for DC Nation #0 (yes, the issue that was $.25 per regular copy) featuring Superman. It was a 1:100 cover (for the layman, that means for every 100 issues, the publisher will give the merchant 1 of these variants). And it was, of course, $25—which makes sense if you do the math. Guess who had to have that as part of his collection … this guy!
Yes, I’m that big of a fan. And you know what? I won’t even consider selling it—not even if someone offers me $1000. I know, I know, they say everyone has a price. However, when it comes to the Man of Steel, there’s no price you can put on my happiness. With that being said, my love for Superman also extends to the DC Trinity. The big three of the DC universe and, probably, the most famous of all comic book heroes. So, you can imagine my fanboy excitement when I found out Sideshow Collectibles—the maker of premiere comic sculptures—was releasing premium format figures for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Look, I’m not a huge toy or sculpture collector, but one look at that Superman figure and I couldn’t resist. The decision was that quick. I think I happened onto Sideshow’s site by chance that day, just surfing around looking at their art. Then it hit me—like a locomotive. That surreal hue of blue and the bright red flowing cape. It was probably the best interpretation of the Big Blue Boy Scout I have ever seen. On top of that, it was Superman at his greatest and finest—right after winning a battle against Brainiac and looking triumphant and stoic.
Faster than a speeding bullet, I pulled out my credit card and pre-ordered this behemoth. Hey, it ain’t a small statue. It stands roughly 26 inches. And I also went full monty—I ordered the exclusive edition which includes a hand that can be swapped out and replaced with one holding Brainiac’s head.
How did the other two Trinity members come into play? Let’s just say it was all fanboy logic. This is how it went down: “Hey, since I already have Superman, I have to complete the collection. And I can go on a monthly payment plan. It’s an investment. Because I’m not paying everything in one chunk, the rest of my money is earning interest. I’m practically making money off of this!” That’s usually how we fans justify things, right?
More Comics: The Man of Steel #1 Review
Up until now, Sideshow has only released still images for these figures. They’re not due to ship out to customers until late 2018 to early 2019. But, today, Sideshow marked their progress for these products with an exclusive featurette showing the sculpts along with some short interviews with the creative minds behind them. Check out the video and notice at the 4:50 mark where one of the designers actually says, “Someone’s gonna have all these pieces in their home and it’s gonna be friggin’ spectacular.” I cannot wait for the “spectacular” to arrive in my home!
You can guarantee Fantinuum will be giving fans an exclusive unboxing and review of these figures when they arrive. Also, along with the DC Trinity, Sideshow is planning on releasing a whole slew of other DC characters in the Premium Format collection. The first of these “newer” products are the Joker and Harley Quinn figures seen in the featurette. My dilemma right now: do I seriously need a retirement fund? How do I make more room in my home? And do I really need a place to sit and eat?
