Titan Comics has released a trailer for the upcoming graphic novel adaption of The Beatles animated film Yellow Submarine.
Remember when trailers were solely for the purpose of hyping up a new movie? And even then you could only see them in an actual movie theater?
That has all changed in this modern, YouTube age. Now movie trailers are released online and are such a big deal that more times than not they get a trailer (or teaser) of their very own.
But trailers aren’t just for movies anymore. Oh no. Books, television shows, pretty much everything and anything can have a trailer now. And odds are people will flock to the nearest screen they can find to watch them over and over.
And that includes comic books.
Comic book trailers are becoming more and more common as publishers look for new and interesting ways to hype their latest projects. Because obviously 20 variant covers and midnight release parties are so last decade.
The latest comic to get an official trailer is Yellow Submarine from Titan Comics. The forthcoming graphic novel adaption of the film by Bill Morrison with colors by Nathan Kane doesn’t arrive in stores until August, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the trailer which was released on Wednesday.
The comic adaption, announced last year, is part of the 50th anniversary of the psychedelic film starring The Beatles. While it will be a bit odd to experience Yellow Submarine without the classic songs and music, it will definitely be a new and different way to enjoy the tale of the Blue Meanies and their attack on Pepperland.
And let’s be honest: we all know at least one Beatles fan who will be buying this the moment it comes out.
From the Titan Comics solicitation:
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine comes this fully authorized graphic novel adaptation.
The Beatles are recruited by the Captain of the Yellow Submarine to help him free Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the world of Pepperland from the music-hating Blue Meanies.
The music-loving, underwater paradise of Pepperland has been overrun by the music-hating Blue Meanies and their leader, Chief Blue Meanie. They turn the people of Pepperland into living statues by dropping apples on them and imprison the Pepperland’s guardians, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band inside a soundproof blue glass globe, before confiscating all the music instruments in the land. Pepperland’s mayor sends aging sailor, Young Fred out in the fabled Yellow Submarine to find help. He travels to our world where he stumbles across the Beatles and begs them to help him free his world. They agree and head back to Pepperland, teaming up with Jeremy The Nowhere Man along the way to help overthrow the evil Blue Meanies through the power of music and love.
