Marvel Announces A New Wolverine Series (Kind Of)

Wolverine

Marvel released their solicitations for August and hidden deep among all the info was the fact that a new Wolverine ongoing is on the way.

Usually when Marvel Comics decides to announce a new series or event, it comes with weeks of buildup and anticipation. Teaser images and social media clues are the norm before Marvel breaks the news, usually with the help of a major news outlet.

Apparently, Marvel decided to go in a completely different direction when it came to a brand new Wolverine ongoing series.

On Tuesday the publisher released their solicitations for the month of August. Included among the many, many titles is Hunt for Wolverine: Dead Ends, a one-shot by Charles Soule and Ramon Rosanas. The book is meant to wrap up the Hunt for Wolverine storyline that has been running through four separate miniseries and promised to reveal how the original Logan returned from the dead.

No big deal, right? Until you get to the end of the solicitation for the book.

The hunt for Wolverine is over… Now the time has come to put the pieces together and see what was learned. Kitty Pryde, Daredevil, Tony Stark and Sabertooth may have found what they were looking for…but it wasn’t what they expected. Where has Wolverine been? What has he been doing? And how does it lead into next month’s WOLVERINE #1?

Readers have known for a while that Logan was back and that, odds were, he was going to be starring in his own ongoing series again sooner rather than later.

But for Marvel to announce that the new series would be launching in September with no fanfare and to make it part of the solicitation for a one-shot seems very… unusual for them.

Where are the teasers? The launch video? The exclusive interview with the creative team? You’re telling me you’re going to return the original Wolverine to comic shops in a brand new series and this is the best you can do?

As for who may in fact be the creative team for the new Wolverine title, the safe money would be Charles Soule. He has been a rising star at Marvel for a while now and he is responsible for both killing Logan in the Death of Wolverine miniseries back in 2014 and has been a key part of the creative team that has resurrected him this year.
