DC officially announced on Monday that Scott Snyder will be writing a relaunched Justice League title with Jim Cheung and Jorge Jiménez.
On Monday DC Comics finally made official what has been common knowledge for a couple weeks now. Namely that superstar writer Scott Snyder would be working on a relaunched and renumbered Justice League title beginning this June.
In the announcement, DC also confirmed that Jim Cheung and Jorge Jiménez would be providing the art for the new series which will be spinning out of May’s DC Nation #0 and the Justice League: No Justice weekly miniseries.
The new lineup will consist of a combination of classic Big Seven elements as well as a few nods to the Justice League animated series. It includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, John Stewart, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Aquaman, and Cyborg.
According to Snyder, the series will pick up some of the story threads he began with Dark Nights: Metal and should please fans of widescreen comic book spectacle.
“Justice League has been the golden ring for me since I came to DC. The story I have planned is something I’ve been building towards through DARK NIGHTS: METAL and I can’t wait to tell it in the biggest way possible. And to have mega star Jim Cheung as one partner, and rising superstar Jorge Jimenez as my other partner, I’m just thrilled to get to work!”
As for Cheung and Jiménez, both sound thrilled to be working with Snyder on one of DC’s flagship titles.
Cheung had this to say about working on Justice League:
“I am extremely honored, and happy, to be able to launch JUSTICE LEAGUE with Scott and Jorge. It has been many years since I’ve had the pleasure of working at DC, but when Scott first mentioned this opportunity, I knew I couldn’t say no. His energy and excitement has been infectious, and I can’t wait to share what we have in store! I can’t think of a more perfect book to return to DC on! These characters are ones that I grew up loving, and the prospect of being able to leave my mark on them, leaves me thrilled.”
And as for Jiménez:
“Working on JUSTICE LEAGUE is probably the most exciting opportunity I’ve ever had in my career I feel more than ever that this is my moment! I have in my hands a script written by the incredible Scott Snyder starring most important DC characters–Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman! Even better, I have the hyper-mega-talented Jim Cheung beside me! I can’t ask for more!”

This will be Snyder’s first ongoing title since leaving a hugely successful run on Batman with Metal cohort Greg Capullo. And if he can bring the same kind of amazing storytelling to the Justice League that he did to the Batman, we are all in for a hell of a ride.
Justice League #1 will go on sale in comic shops and digitally on June 6 with the second issue following on June 20.
