Check out our unboxing of Funko’s Legion of Collectors March 2018 “Green Lantern Corps” box which contains exclusive collectible items.

Welcome to March 2018’s unboxing of Funko’s Legion of Collectors box. This month, the company dedicates its DC-centric subscription box to a team of very important individuals who have been largely ignored (sans their very brief appearance in Wonder Woman (2017)) by the DC Extended Universe—the Green Lantern Corps.

Green Lantern made his first appearance in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940) with the character of Alan Scott wielding the famous ring. However, it wasn’t until 1959 when the most famous of the Green Lanterns made his debut—Hal Jordan. This Silver Age Green Lantern expanded on the myth and also introduced the Green Lantern Corps.

Throughout the years, multiple Green Lanterns have shown their rings in the DC Universe. And let’s not forget the concept of a “Green” Lantern was also expanded upon with the introduction of Lanterns of many other colors—each representing a specific facet of humanity. Like Hal Jordan, some of these later Green Lanterns also resonated with fans. Characters like John Stewart and Guy Gardner are now just as important to the DC mythos as Superman and the Trinity.

For March 2018, Funko gives tribute to this intergalactic police force. As always, we know Funko won’t disappoint. So let’s get on with our unboxing and bask in Green Lantern’s light!

The Unboxing!

Opening the box, we’re immediately presented with a t-shirt obscuring the rest of the items. Removing the t-shirt, we see the holy grail of Funko’s boxes—three Pop!s! As we empty the rest of the contents, we get a good look at the custom-designed artwork for this month’s Green Lantern Corps theme.

The Details!

Legion of Collectors “Green Lantern” T-Shirt

The “Green Lantern” t-shirt shows three of the most prominent human Lanterns—Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. The Lanterns are further emphasized by the stark black of the t-shirt. I’m not sure who the artist is, but it does have a hint of Neal Adams. If any readers want to chime in, please free to do so in the comments.

Legion of Collectors Green Lantern Power Battery Stress Ball

Our next item is a fun Green Lantern Power Battery stress ball. The ball fits nicely in the hand and has some fun details, so it’s unmistakable that it’s of Oan origin.

Legion of Collectors “Green Lantern” Hal Jordan and Sinestro Pint Size Heroes

The Pint Size Heroes make another appearance here, and we have Hal Jordan and Sinestro. The pairing is very poetic since the two are direct enemies. The figures are fun and the custom-designed box allows for a nice presentation for the two characters.

Legion of Collectors Pop! Heroes DC Super Heroes Ch’p, Guy Gardner, & Kilowog 3-Pack

And finally, as I said before, Funko gives us three Pop!s this month. The 3-Pack contains Ch’p, Guy Gardner, and their mentor—Kilowog. As always, the box has a very generous window which is great for inbox collectors like myself. The three are well-proportioned to each other meaning they’re in the correct scale as to how they would appear with each other in the comics.

Ch’p Pop!

Ch’p is a very fun sculpt. As humorous and adorable as he looks, the pose and prominent tail show this tiny Green Lantern ready for battle. The figure is nicely detailed and well-painted from all angles.

Guy Gardner Pop!

Guy Gardner is like the “Jason Todd” of the Green Lantern Corps—you either love him or hate him. Regardless, this figure captures the essence of this character. The green collared jacket and signature bowl-cut immediately make this figure recognizable to fans.

Kilowog Pop!

Kilowog may be a small figure here, but his presence is as big as ever. As a trainer to many famous Green Lanterns, his resilience and tough demeanor are perfectly captured in this Pop!-ified form. The small ring and his pose complete his commanding look.

Final Round-Up

Even without the t-shirt, stress ball, or Pint Size Heroes, this box would’ve been worth it because of the three Pop!s. The primary reason people go for a Funko subscription box is to collect their favorite character in Pop! form. Funko truly delivered on value this month and I’m sure fans are going to be quite surprised and happy. The characters selected were also quite interesting. Aside from Hal Jordan, Funko concentrated on the lesser known members of the Green Lantern Corps (not to say that Guy Gardner isn’t known—he’s just not as famous or iconic). Because these characters aren’t always represented outside of the comics, their rare appearance here may eventually turn them into sought after collectibles. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Sadly, this is the final subscription box coming straight from Funko. Fans can still get these boxes, but will need to purchase them at an as-yet-to-be-announced retailer. About Steve Lam 105 Articles
The first superhero Steve ever saw was Christopher Reeve's Superman in 1978. Steve was only a year old and couldn't really appreciate history being made. Little did he know at the time, the seed was already planted—which would grow into a lifelong obsession with superheroes and comics. Today, Steve also adds science fiction, horror, and movies to his repertoire of nerdy fanaticism. His dream is to one day sell his novel or screenplay.
