Netflix and Marvel Studios have released the first teaser trailer for the second season of Luke Cage as well as the date it will arrive on the streaming service.

Sure, The Defenders “event” series on Netflix may have fizzled a bit in terms of fan reaction and overall reviews. However, that hasn’t stopped Marvel Studios from going full steam ahead with an aggressive rollout of new seasons for their street level heroes.

Season 2 of Jessica Jones is set to hit Netflix on Thursday March 8 and now we know that the second season of Luke Cage starring Mike Colter will be arriving on the streaming service this coming June.

How do we know this? Thanks to the teaser trailer that Netflix released on Tuesday.

In addition to the teaser, Marvel and Netflix also released an official synopsis for the new season.

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t give much information on plot and story details for Season 2. It gives viewers nothing on who exactly this “formidable new foe” may be, but it’s a safe bet that it will involve Luke’s half-brother Willis “Diamondback” Stryker (played by Erik LeRay Harvey) as well as Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) and Hernan “Shades” Alvarez (Theo Rossi).

As well as dealing with new threats to Harlem, Luke Cage Season 2 will see the return of both Misty Knight (Simone Missick) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones). Knight will now have her proper bionic right arm, same as the comic book version fans know and love.

While the trailer may be light on story, it does an outstanding job of showing exactly what Luke Cage can do, which is pretty much whatever he wants. It’s such a shame that the success of the Netflix show hasn’t translated into a renewed interest in a Luke Cage comic books series, the latest of which was cancelled due to low sales in December.

So with Knight and Iron Fist showing up in the second season of Luke Cage, can a Netflix Heroes for Hire spinoff be far behind? Colter has said in the past that he would love to see a live action version of Power Man and Iron Fist on the small screen and that he hopes it may happen. But that will ultimately be up to the fans and how they react to seeing the two team up in the upcoming new season.

Well, viewers won’t have long to wait. Luke Cage Season 2 is set to begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, June 22, 2018.
