The first official trailer for Deadpool 2 has arrived and it has everything you would want from a Deadpool sequel, just with more Josh Brolin.
It is safe to say that Deadpool was exactly what the superhero film genre needed when it hit theaters in 2016.
It demonstrated beyond a doubt that yes, you could make an R-rated superhero film and it could make money. By the time all was said and done, Deadpool had made almost $365 million in the United States alone and $783 million worldwide. So yes, adult superhero films can find an audience.
Deadpool also showed that superhero films can be funny. Sure, the films Marvel Studios produced all had some humor, but they were always more about widescreen action and blowing things up. In Deadpool, the humor was front and center.
Deadpool was so successful that it may have single-handedly saved the X-Men Cinematic Universe, which had fallen on hard times since the glory days of the original trilogy of movies. The success of the film convinced 20th Century Fox to green-light giving Wade Wilson his own mini shared universe of R-rated films, the first of which would be Deadpool 2.
Deadpool 2 would introduce Josh Brolin as Cable, which in turn would lay the groundwork for an R-rated X-Force film. And while that whole plan may be dead in the water thanks to the impending sale to Disney, the first official trailer for the sequel has finally arrived.
And it is everything you could want in a Deadpool sequel.
The trailer open in a pretty typical superhero movie pattern, with the focus almost completely on Cable and his ominous past. Then things quickly go off the rails in typical Deadpool fashion.
Thanks to the trailer, we also get our first good looks at Domino, played by Zazie Beetz and Terry Crews, who it would appear is playing G.W. Bridge. From the scenes in the trailer, it seems like the plot of Deadpool 2 will include the Six Pack, a group of mutants that was led by Cable early in his career that included Domino and Shatterstar, who if you look closely makes a very brief appearance.
And we get a joke at the expense of the Justice League movie. Which we all should have seen coming.
Of course, most of this is just mindless speculation. The cast and crew have been incredibly tight lipped about the production and have been known to throw red herrings at fans hoping to spread misinformation about what they can expect.

But one thing we can all be certain about is that Deadpool 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) will feature the same borderline offensive laughs and meta humor moviegoers have come to expect and love.
