We always knew it was going to happen—we just didn’t know when. The Defenders may have been a bit slow, narrative-wise, but it did set up our heroes for their new seasons. One of those being Misty Knight’s official origin—which will be explored more deeply in Luke Cage Season 2.
In the climactic finale of The Defenders, Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, and Claire Temple faced off with one of the fingers of the Hand—Bakuto. As Bakuto overpowered Claire, Misty moved in to save her. However, Bakuto ruthlessly sliced Misty’s arm clean off. Later, after the Hand had been defeated, Misty is seen in the hospital recovering. Colleen notes that Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, actually owns the hospital and that maybe Rand Enterprises “can help” and “get her back up and running.” Fans knew exactly what that meant.
Today, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, we get our first look at Luke Cage Season 2—and we see the “help” Rand Enterprises has provided. Misty is finally sporting her famous bionic arm and is back in action with Power Man.
In the comics, it was Stark Industries (the company owned by billionaire Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man) that provided Misty with her prosthetic upgrade. Though most fans may have wanted the Marvel Cinematic Universe to stay more faithful to the comics—thereby opening the door for a Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey, Jr.) cameo—it’s understandable why the writers chose to switch it up a bit. By keeping things a bit more close to the Netflix series of shows, it allows for better character interactions and development.

I’m sure as the series goes on, Misty’s arm will be upgraded several times—eventually looking more like the comics (think Winter Soldier). She may even receive the MCU’s version of her costume in Luke Cage Season 2.
Luke Cage Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2018.
