Marvel Studios and Netflix drops the first teaser trailer for The Punisher!
It’s finally here, the first teaser trailer for Marvel’s The Punisher—sadly, it’s too short! Well, it is a teaser trailer, so it did its job—it teased the hell out of fans! The gritty footage (with a voice-over from Jon Bernthal) was released right after the premiere of The Defenders.
Frank Castle made his debut in Daredevil Season 2. This new characterization coupled with Bernthal’s stellar acting, made the character an audience favorite.
For years, the character faltered on the silver screen—with the first adaptation being The Punisher (1989). Dolph Lundgren embodied this ’80s mess which hardly resembled the comics. Next up was The Punisher (2004) where Thomas Jane took the reigns of Marvel’s vigilante. The film didn’t pan out too well, but Jane was given praise for his performance. Finally, Punisher: War Zone (2008) saw Ray Stevenson take on the role. The poor box-office performance and bad reviews sealed its fate. With nothing in the works for the character, the rights reverted back to Marvel.
The Punisher’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was met with universal critical acclaim. With huge fan momentum, Marvel Studios fast-tracked a solo series for the character. As production went underway, fans clamored for a peek at any behind-the-scenes footage.

Attendees at San Diego Comic-Con 2017’s Hall H Marvel panel were the first to see the much coveted footage—which was said to have brought the audience to its feet. Though this isn’t the footage the privileged few witnessed, it’s still enough Frank Castle to last us until a longer trailer can be released.
