The final trailer for The Defenders has Sigourney Weaver’s villain goading on our heroes.
We’re only a few hours away from another Marvel superhero team-up — The Defenders! To really get audiences energized and hyped, Marvel Studios and Netflix make a last minute marketing push with a final exciting trailer. In it, Alien franchise star Sigourney Weaver performs a voice-over — trying to intimidate each of our heroes.
The trailer opens with Weaver’s character, Alexandra Reid, nonchalantly meeting with the Defenders at a Chinese restaurant. She’s calm and cool — and that’s what makes her so creepy. As the scenes play, Alexandra’s voice-over artfully described how she predicts these heroes will fall. The trailer’s scenes finally escalate to the Defenders infiltrating a building with each member displaying their respective fighting skills.

There’s been a huge air of mystery surrounding Alexandra Reid. The character is nowhere to be found in the comics. Many fans are speculating “Alexandra Reid” to be a pseudonym of a better known Marvel Comics villain. However, some are deducing Alexandra to be Alexander Bont — the original Kingpin before Wilson Fisk. Bont rose to infamy when he killed a hero going by the name of “the Defender.” It would be later learned that Bont was also the one who murdered Jack Murdock, Matt Murdock’s father.
This gender change from male to female for a character wouldn’t be a first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Jessica Jones, Carrie-Anne Moss played Jeryn “Jeri” Hogarth — who in Marvel’s Earth-616 universe is male. Doctor Strange‘s the Ancient One was played by Tilda Swinton, and this character was also male in the 616 universe.
