In anticipation of the release of Marvel’s The Defenders, Netflix has released a new featurette that helps to set up the series.
At the time the deal between Marvel Studios and Netflix was announced, it seemed pretty daring and no one was really sure it was going to work. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t exactly a ratings champ so the idea of Marvel’s street heroes on the small screen seemed risky at best.
The idea of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all getting their own Netflix shows which in turn would lead into a Defenders series excited fanboys everywhere. But the big question was whether Marvel could pull it off.
It’s safe to say that that particular question has been answered with a resounding yes.
Daredevil had not one but two seasons while both Luke Cage and Jessica Jones have second seasons in various stages of production. Despite a lukewarm reaction from fans, a second season of Iron Fist is practically assured while The Punisher is getting a spinoff of his own which is currently in front of the cameras.
And on August 18 after what seems like months of build up, The Defenders will make its debut on Netflix. The series will see the return of almost everyone from all the previous series as well as Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra, the enigmatic bad guy who may or may not be leading The Hand.
And now to help build the hype just a bit more (like that is really necessary) Netflix has released a new featurette which helps set up the series.
The video features the four principles (Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones) discussing where their respective characters are emotionally when The Defenders begins.
If I’m being honest, I wouldn’t even care if the whole series is horrible as long as we get the Power Man and Iron Fist team up that I’ve wanted to see for over 25 years.
The Defenders synopsis:
Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez are the showrunners for the series with Drew Goddard as the executive producer. Unlike most Netflix series, The Defenders will only be eight episodes instead of the normal 13, which will likely mean less explanation and more action.
All eight episodes of The Defenders arrives on Netflix on Friday, August 18
